Q&A: Can sexual sin be forgiven?
Can sexual sin be forgiven?
You know, a lot of people would think from God’s perspective, sexual sin is worse. It’s different from other kinds of sin. But when we read in the Bible, when we see Jesus’s interaction with other people, even around sexual sins, we never see him make this distinction between other sins and then sexual sins or saying that they can’t be forgiven. All of our sin separates us from God, but Jesus came to take care of all of our sin, to take it upon himself and to set us free from the punishment of our sin. And so when you have that nagging sense of doubt or shame, even as you struggle with sexual sin, remember that there’s nothing in the Bible that says that sexual sin is unforgivable or somehow worse than other kinds of sins.
The truth is, we all need the blood of Christ. We all need His covering for our sins, whether it’s lying or greed, or theft or sexual sin, whatever it might be. But we have a part to play. The Bible says in 1 John, if you confess your sin, then God is faithful to forgive your sin and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Our part to play is to confess our sin before God and to ask him to forgive us and cleanse us. And the word of God says that he will be faithful to do just that.
